Holiday Weight Gain in Berlin – My 3 Days in Rügen
I just came back from a short trip to Rügen with my daughter, and it was exactly what we needed. But this is exactly how holiday weight gain Berlin happens—I returned home 1 kg heavier after just three days, without even trying to gain weight.
This is how weight gain often starts. Not with extreme overeating, but with small daily surpluses that add up quickly.
Staying Active Was Not the Problem
Most people assume weight gain only happens when you stop moving. That was not the case here.
We woke up between 8 and 9 AM and started every day with a workout about 30 minutes later. Each session lasted 30 to 45 minutes and included a mix of strength training and Thai boxing. We warmed up properly, did some weights, and then focused on Muay Thai techniques.
On top of that, we walked more than 10,000 steps daily and spent time swimming. Not intensely, but consistently active.
From the outside, this looks like a solid routine. Still, the holiday weight gain effect showed up immediately.

The Real Issue Was the Food
The biggest factor was not inactivity. It was food timing and portion size.
After training, breakfast at the hotel looked like this: porridge with strawberries, eggs, salmon, orange juice, and three small pancakes with Nutella.
During the day, I kept things light with snacks like fruit, nuts, and rice cakes. Dinner was simple but calorie-dense—chicken breast with fries, a Diet Coke, and ice cream on the way back.
There was no constant overeating. Just one main calorie-heavy moment per day.
One Meal Can Be Enough
This is where most people underestimate the situation.
That breakfast alone can easily go above 1000 calories. When you repeat that for several days, even with activity, you create a consistent calorie surplus.
That is how holiday weight gain Berlin happens so quickly, even when everything else seems “balanced.”
Why Training Didn’t Cancel It Out
There is a common belief that training offsets everything.
It does not.
A 30–45 minute workout and 10,000 steps are not enough to compensate for daily overeating. Even training fasted in the morning, which helps your body use fat as energy, does not erase what comes later. You cannot outtrain consistent surplus.
The Breakfast Trap
Breakfast is often the most underestimated meal, especially on holiday.
In reality, breakfast does not need to be large. For many people, it is even better to delay or skip it. Your body does not need constant food, and digestion also needs recovery time.
On holiday, however, breakfast becomes an event. Buffet, options, emotions—it all adds up. This is where holiday weight gain Berlin usually begins without people noticing.
My Approach Is Intentional: Holiday Weight Gain Berlin Explained
I do this on purpose.
A few times per year, I allow myself full freedom on holiday. I enjoy the food, the environment, and the experience without restriction. Gaining some weight is part of that.
What matters is awareness and control afterward.
If You Recognize This
If you came back to Berlin and noticed the same pattern—1 or 2 kg more within a few days—then you’ve experienced it yourself.
Holiday is not random. It follows clear patterns.
If you want to understand those patterns and take control of them, you know where to find me.
